The Whalehead Club

Historical Outer Banks Wedding Venue

The plush, expansive lawns at Currituck Heritage Park are situated on 39 scenic acres of soundfront property in Corolla, North Carolina.

The Whalehead Club, built in the mid-1920′s, or “Corolla Island” as it was originally named, remains one the most spectacular landmarks on the Currituck Outer Banks. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is located in the shadow of the (1875) Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Currituck Heritage Park is filled with live oak trees which are perfect for capturing that timeless photograph of your wedding.

Currituck Heritage Park is the ideal setting for an outdoor wedding and reception on the Outer Banks.  This historic waterfront setting offers a sweeping 39 acre lawn with massive live oaks and a footbridge perfect for a bride’s grand entrance.  Your wedding album can include incredible photos with the Currituck Beach Lighthouse,  breathtaking sunsets from the gazebo, or on the porch of the architectural masterpiece, The Whalehead Club.
Unforgettable location to exchange your wedding vows…

The north lawn, situated between the sound and historic boathouse, is an unforgettable location to exchange wedding vows.  This area features a soundfront gazebo that offers a lovely gathering place for a bride and her attendants.  The historic bridge presents the bride to her waiting groom and guests in a naturally eloquent fashion. At the reception, guests mingle and raise a glass to toast the newlyweds as the sun slowly sets over Currituck Sound.

The southeast lawn, near the front of the Whalehead Club, offers a picturesque, 180 degree, water view.  This lawn is more isolated and private and features a pond, typically inhabited by the resident Canada geese, and unobstructed views of the Currituck Sound.

Over 200 parking spaces are available in Currituck Heritage Park near clean public restrooms; however, parking is in an area allowing for pleasant scenery and perfect photo opportunities.  Power is available on both the north and southeast lawns.

  1. Our daughter’s wedding was held at The Whalehead Club on Saturday, October 15, 2011, and I can’t begin to list all the great things about working with the staff who handles the events. Not only did they have great tips and ideas, but they were also responsive to our inquiries and on top of ALL of the details. We had heard when we booked the location that the venue is hard to work with, but lucky for us there is now a new staff handling the events and they were professional from start to finish. We felt as though they were as excited about the wedding as we were!
