Julie and Daniel’s Wedding featuring DJ Professionals and Video

How did you meet?

Daniel and I were introduced by a mutual friend in July of 2006. My friends and I set out to watch karaoke and Daniel joined us. Daniel and I happened to sit next to each other that night and we hit it off. We have been inseparable ever since.

How did you get engaged?

It was a Friday night and we got all dressed up to go to the Daniel’s work Christmas party at Main Street Station in Richmond, VA. We had a great time at the party and then Daniel decided that he wanted to take me to go look at the Christmas lights at the James Center in Richmond. While we strolled around looking at all of the pretty Christmas lights, Daniel asked me to marry him!

Why OBX for your wedding day?

The Outer Banks was my second home growing up. My parents and I would go to the beach just about every weekend. We both love the beach and the ocean. We spend a lot of our free weekends in the Outer Banks at my parents beach house.

How did you decide on your ceremony and reception location?

We picked the Village of Nags Head Beach Club for the ceremony and reception location because we wanted the wedding to be on the beach but we also wanted to have a back up plan incase the weather did not allow for an outdoor wedding. The setting and scenery were beautiful. Ina and Mary were extremely accommodating and very easy to work with. We highly recommend them.

How many guests did you have?

around 200

How long did you allow for the wedding planning process?

10 months

Share with us some planning details that were important to you.

We made several trips to the Outer Banks to meet with our vendors. Each of them sat down with us, listened to our ideas and gave suggestions.

Looking back, what was your favorite moment of your wedding day?

Our favorite part of the wedding day was right after the ceremony when we walked down the beach a little ways and enjoyed a brief quiet moment. It was just the two of us. The photographer caught some photos that are just priceless.

If you could do one thing different either in the planning or actual day, what would it be?

I cannot think of anything that we would change. All of our vendors were so nice to work with and they made our day absolutely perfect.

What advice would you give to another bride planning her wedding in the Outer Banks?

Having an event day coordinator is highly recommended because it helps take the stress off of the bride and the mother of the bride. We also had two amazing mistress of ceremonies. I cannot forget to mention our extremely organized DJ (George Wainwright) who made us feel at ease throughout the wedding planning process.

Did you have a theme or style that you carried through the planing process?

Our colors were green and brown.

How did you choose your menu?

We both love seafood among many other things. We made sure to have a little of everything.

What was the style of service?

Hors d’oeuvres

Did you have a specialty drink at the bar?

Yes. “Drewryville martinis” which is a mixed drink of bourbon and sundrop. Sundrop is a soda that I grew up drinking in Southampton County. Daniel had never heard of sundrop until he met me because it was never sold in the Richmond area. We also had “Painkillers” which is a drink that originiated in the BVI. We have traveled to the BVI together and loved it so we wanted to somehow tie in a little piece of the Caribbean.
